IPMAT is an entrance exam conducted by certain institutes in India, such as the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), for admission into their 5-year integrated management programs. The program generally leads to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) + Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a similar degree.
IPMAT assesses students' aptitude in areas like Quantitative Aptitude, Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness. The exam aims to evaluate the candidates' potential for pursuing a management education and career.
The selection process for these programs usually consists of two stages:
● IPMAT Entrance Exam: This is the first step where candidates appear for the aptitude test. It tests their skills in the aforementioned areas. The exam pattern may vary from institute to institute.
● Personal Interview (PI): Shortlisted candidates from the entrance exam are invited for a personal interview. The interview process evaluates the candidates' communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and their overall suitability for the management program.

IPMAT - Indore

Seats Intake: The IPM 2024 batch at Indian Institute of Management Indore has a sanctioned intake of 150 domestic applicants. Successful admission requires clearing IPMAT 2024 and interviews.
To secure admission into the 5-year Integrated Program in Management (IPM), candidates need to go through a two-stage selection process, consisting of an Aptitude Test and a Personal Interview (PI).

Stage 1: Aptitude Test
● The Aptitude Test evaluates candidates' Quantitative Aptitude and English Proficiency.
● Candidates must meet the minimum qualifying marks set by IIM Indore's cut-off to proceed.
● The test includes multiple-choice questions with +4 marks for correct answers and -1 for incorrect answers.

Stage 2: Personal Interview (PI)
● Shortlisted candidates move to the PI stage.
● PI assesses confidence, communication skills, general awareness, persuasion abilities, and knowledge.
● The interview is conducted by the admissions committee.
Note: This two-stage process determines candidates' eligibility for admission to the IPM program at IIM Indore.

Shortlisting Process

Step 1 | Entrance Exam: Most of the colleges giving MBA admissions in India require a candidate to score well in their entrance examination. Some prominent examinations include CAT, XAT, NMAT, IIFT, SNAP, etc. Most of the entrance examinations have English, Math, and Logical Reasoning in common with basic concepts being tested across the three subjects. A candidate who clears the cut-off in the entrance examinations is further invited to the GD-PI/WAT of a particular college.

Step 2 | Group Discussion (GD)/ Written Ability Test (WAT): Through GD, a candidate is assessed on his/her knowledge, communication skills, listening skills, and clarity of thought amongst other things. The topics include business, economics, social issues, or anything abstract to which the candidate can add his/her own creative interpretations. Some Business Schools also use writing ability tests to examine if the candidate is able to express his/her views in an organized manner.

Step 3 | Personal Interview (PI): The last stage of the selection is the Personal Interview round. Typically, a candidate faces a group of 4–8 interviewers. The primary objective of the Personal Interview round is to assess everything about the candidate including leadership skills, communication skills, confidence, and managerial skills. Amongst other things, the interviewers are also trying to understand how well a student can manage his/her b-school education.

Step 4 | Individual Merit List: After the completion of the GD and PI rounds, institutes prepare an individual merit list based on the candidates' overall performance. The merit list is prepared by considering various factors, including the entrance test scores, performance in GD and PI, past academic records, work experience, diversity factors, and any specific criteria set by the institute. Weightage given to each factor may vary from institute to institute. The candidates are then ranked based on their cumulative scores, and admissions are offered to the top-ranked candidates until the available seats are filled.

In 2023, IIM Rohtak increased its seat count to 120 from 60, and the admission process relies entirely on the IPMAT Rohtak score. The merit list is determined by a combination of factors: Aptitude Test Score (45%), Personal Interview (15%), and Past Academics (10th and 12th, 40% combined, 20% each). Eligibility requires a minimum of 60% in X/XII for Gen/OBC/EWS candidates, with a maximum age of 20, and a minimum of 55% in X/XII for SC/ST/PWD candidates within the same age limit.
